Raug Staug

RAUG STAUG

A two person interactive skateboarding competition where players battle for possession and points. 

Whoever has possession has "the ball". The player without the ball wins possession by striking the other player with his stick. 

Winning possession is called a "Raug". 

If the player with the ball fails to score points in under 20 seconds, a timer runs out, and possession is turned over to the opposite player. 

Whoever has the ball can score points. Points are scored by executing tricks along the coping. The harder the trick; the greater the point score.  Points are called "Staug". 

The player with the most points at the end of the 2 minute round is the winner.

GAME PLAY

The game can be played by two players on one computer using "Split Screen", or online (one-on-one) using "Multiplayer".

The game is availble for play on Mac and Windows machines.

Custom Key Bindings are available in the Menu. This comes in handy especially for Mac users playing with an Xbox controller or other controllers where the input mapping is all over the place.

Apologies in advance to goofy riders; this initial build only includes reg. rider stance and was made to get the game and the concept out there. Future builds will include a wide variety of upgrades to game play.

CONTROLS

In Multiplayer, the user hosting the match is player 1. The player accepting the match is player 2. In Split Screen, the red player is player 1 and the blue player is player 2.

REAL LIFE

It's not just a computer game. Raug Staug can be played in real life under the right conditions. 

The mini-ramp depicted in the game is just one possibility of a surface where the game can be played. But any kind of bowl or park could be conceivably used to play this game.

Maybe you're asking, "yeah, but how can you play this game with a ball to designate possession?"

Instead of using a ball, players IRL tape one end of their stick black and the other white, or blue, yellow, red, etcetera. 

The "Point-scorer" keeps the coloured side of the stick up and the "Attacker" keeps the black side of the stick up. 

When a "tag" occurs players reverse the polarity of their sticks. In this way, the roles of the players can be distinguished and point-keepers can keep track of the game. 

Raug Staug is a new concept and the potentials IRL are just starting.
